School VPN
Cardiff High School
VPN Usage Guide Updated January 2024 for Windows 11 Laptops
(DO NOT USE WITHIN THE SCHOOL)
The New VPN is much simpler to use than the previous one and comes pre- installed on your new laptops. Existing school laptops can also be configured for use as well.
When you are located in school you do not need to use the vpn. Please only follow these steps whilst out of school.
Please make sure you have connected to your Internet first either via WiFi or Cable.
Step 1. Login screen:
Below you will see the Windows 11 login screen please note the padlock icon to the lower right of the screen.
Step 2. Getting connected.
Click on the padlock icon and you will see the following, just click connect. If it does not say schoolsra.cardiff.gov.uk in the box please contact IT support:
you'll then see this box pop up
It is important that you ensure that you see “XdomainLogon” in the drop down list if you see schools please alter this to “XdomainLogon”
Enter CHS\Username (This is the same as you use to login to a computer in school) and then your password (Also the same)
Click on ok.
Once the connection is established you will be taken back to the login screen and then you login as you would ordinarily do with your network username & Password.
You are now both connected to the schools network via vpn and logged in correctly.
Once finished please ensure you logoff the computer.
Whilst you are connected you have the same level of access to school resources so to ensure safety a security along with data protection compliance no data is able to be saved to the laptop. All data on shared drives and within sims stays within the network boundary.
